I heard a story a couple months back about french youth panhandling at Cannes for tickets to see the world premiere of the new Dardenne brothers film Deux Jours, Une Nuit (Two Days, One Night). I have never seen a Dardenne Brothers film, so naturally I was curious what made French youth feel so connected to their films. Was it a sense of national pride to rally behind French auteurs at the premier French film festival or was it that they are more fascinated and engaged by cinema than our own culture. Regardless I would like to find out what all the hype is about and the best way I know is to curate a film series.
Last year we took a look at work from the French New Wave in a cinema series. Now we will watch these 5 films from the Dardenne Brothers.
